Age thirteen- my first introduction to make-up and skin care industry. I was allowed to join the adults attend an ‘Oraflame’ make-up party at a neighbours with my mother in 1980- a party plan and demonstration of skincare and make-up application. From that moment I was hooked on looking after my skin, preventing ageing. I commenced my full skin care routine, often secretly using my mother’s expensive products when she wasn’t looking, cleanse, tone and moisturise.
Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise !!!!! What a simple yet effective lesson to learn at such a young age.
From age fourteen to eighteen I experimented with make-up. The early eighties trending perky bright eye make-up with defined eyeliners in electric blue, vivid violet lip wear and brilliant blusher highlighting our curvy cheek bones. This was my time explore, express and experiment with colour and contouring! Wow! What a time I had creating look after look. I was in the process of discovering what we can hide and enhance with the tools of make-up.
At seventeen I had a make-over at the House of Fraser – I was shown, correctly, how to use brushes to apply make-up and my mother bought me my first ever set of professional make-up brushes – that is when I knew I wanted to work in the beauty industry.
Age eighteen I enrolled on a two year full time Beauty Therapy Course at Salford College. This was a dream, learning all about our skin and nails, their functions, anatomy, massage techniques, eye treatments and theory behind contouring with make-up and bone structure.
I was curious to know how our bodies worked. How its structure enabled movement, the causes of aging, how massage and exercise affect the body’s systems. Also what we can do ourselves to delay aging and maintain full active movement from our bodies. I literally loved every minute of my initial training – and all since
I continually update my qualifications to remain on trend with industry but I selectively choose the skills I practice commercially to ensure optimal standards and experiences for my clients. My most recent training was in Reiki Healing. I am now a fully qualified Reiki Master.
The Beauty Box, Bolton – I initially worked here with June Howarth during my training on a placement from college. I continued to work with June for several years both full time and part time while teaching at local colleges.
The Last Drop Village, Bromley Cross, Bolton – I initially worked here during my training on a placement from college where I shadowed the beauty therapist and fitness instructors. I was headhunted to run the Beauty Salon and teach aerobics within the health club shortly after I had finished my course.
I commenced my teacher training in academic year 1990/91 and successfully gained my Certificate in Education with distinction. I have taught numerous students in several North West Colleges embracing the sharing of knowledge and helping to create our beauty industry.
During my teaching career I spent two years teaching Anatomy & Physiology, Maths and English at HMYP Hindley .This was a challenging, yet very rewarding teaching experience.
My most recent teaching has been locally at Runshaw College, working with both teenagers and adults. I have enthusiastically embraced the concept their learning outcomes thereby helping to produce quality beauty therapists. I have adored teaching and developing the skills of my students. After eleven years of teaching at Runshaw College I have taken voluntary redundancy to set up my own salon.
This has always been on my wish list and now I have been given the opportunity to share my skills and knowledge, once again, with my clients.
